I am encouraged to put my own ideas into the workshop which helps me get involved with the other members in the group. It is so important to me because every time I go there is always something different happening. It offers me activities that I wouldn't normally get the chance to do
I think the workshop we have done will have a lot of benefits to communication in the workplace and also we will look at doing some more workshops in the future to deal with conflict resolution, communication, collaboration and trust as this one was received so well.
The workshop we did was beneficial and really improved communication between team members, people who rarely spoke to one another got a chance to develop communication channels in ways which they would not in general working life.
The arts based activities took the emphasis off work and put it firmly on the team. People were able to open up more and many of the staff commented how it felt like the were able to take a step back from work issues and this meant they could engage with people differently which they could then take back with them when they were dealing with people in a work situation.

Three growing Derby Businesses have come together to launch a brand new Therapeutic Hub close to the centre of Derby. The businesses aim to deliver stress relief, anger management and emotional development to people of all learning abilities.
Palm People, Inspirative Arts and Beating Anger have all joined together in their new building Burley House, Rowditch Place, Derby.
Julian Hall of Beating Anger told us “Inspirative Arts deliver social, emotional and learning support to adults with learning difficulties. In Beating Anger we help people develop a healthy relationship with anger and stress. Palm people offers accredited training in complementary therapies ranging from beginners session to professional qualification which is a great all round fit.”
The alliance started as a collaboration between Beating Anger and Inspirative Arts. Sarah Paine says “we wanted to take some of the work Julian does and help our client base. Julian kindly helped us adapt it and we now run an Emotional Development Course with outstanding results in areas of confidence, self esteem and social skills.”
When Julian, Sarah &Tracey went to look at new premises and met Ewa at Palm People it seemed like destiny was playing its part. Ewa says “it’s fantastic that through coincidence three such complimentary businesses have come to the same place.”
To celebrate the three business are holding an open day Friday 12th October. The day includes taster sessions in Create, Explore and Develop with the arts for adults with learning difficulties and their carers. There will also be taster sessions for anger management and an introduction to reflexology and massage.
The building Burley House is just over a year old, modern and fully disability discrimination act compliant. There is one more unit left and they are looking for a complementary partner. Julian adds “we would love to have a therapist or counsellor in the building or any other business that complemented what we offer.”
The launch day starts at 11 am and remains open until 5 pm with an opening ceremony being performed by The Mayor of Derby.
