In this blog entry, one of our fabulous facilitators shares what she’s been up to during the facilitation of her CET workshops. I wish I’d taken part in the workshops, they sound like great fun! I hope that you enjoy reading about the activities that the group has been taking part in – thought provoking stuff for all you creatives out there. Allow me to hand you over to the musical master that is Sarah Steenson…
Until next time,
Adele.
Group Size: 2-5
Throughout the sessions we have used music and sensory activities to explore the likes of the individuals, as well trying to observe their responses.
Session Layout –
- The “Hello Song” (in the key of C major) - Using the name of the client and getting the whole group to sing hello to each person.
- The “I’m in a singing mood” song (in the key of G major) - using this one to find out how the client is feeling and using this information to focus the workshop around the individuals feelings.
- Main activity – this has been a mixture of music, sensory materials and storytelling.
- Workshop one - Exploring Instruments - in this workshop I brought in a range of percussion and tuned instruments that the group had not used before and I encouraged group and solo playing.
- Workshop two – Creating vocals sounds - using familiar nursery rhyme songs where you can make the noises of animals. This was to encourage vocal expression.
- Workshop three - If I were an animal I would be… Workshop – Again this was a storytelling activity, using instruments, using movement and play therapy.
- Workshop four – songs and stories - wearing a hat that they choose we then created a story based around the character the client created with the help of the support worker and volunteers.
- Workshop five – Bonfire night workshop - using various materials and instruments we recreated bonfire night.
- Workshops six – Multi sensory, the story of Diwali - sing poets, materials and instruments each group member played a different character.
- Workshop seven – Halloween workshop – Using a story and costumes, then using various instruments to encourage listening and improvisation.
- Workshop eight - multi-sensory and music workshop - using the scrunchie and letting each invidious explore what they would like to do with it. Music and instruments were used to provide structure in the activity.
